My Bass Altar

My new love. And the only bass I'm using currently. A Dingwall Afterburner I 5string. And this is the picture of it. It uses the Novax fanned fret system and god it sounds great. No other bass that I've heard is as good and that 37" B-string is perfect. It sounds like a B-string and not like a thud. It just doesn't get any better than this!
My upright is an Englehardt M-1. It has a good sound, though there is a little rattle in the lower register of the E string. I am going to try to raise the bridge a bit before I worry about anything drastic. I use it for jazz mostly.
My first bass (and still my favorite) is a 1973 Fender Fretless P-bass. The image here is just a space saver until I get a photo of my baby (it's name is Thor, by the way!) to put up. Thor is black with the maple neck and, of course, no frets! I use Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flatwounds on this bass. Gives me an almost upright sound.
My second bass is a custom job of a sort. I had an Explorer-style body built out of Mahogany (2 inches thick!) built with DiMarzio PJ pickups and a Fender P-bass neck that I had (you can see me play it here. It got way too heavy and so I replaced the body with a P-bass body from Warmouth. All the electronics, etc are the same and are now 25 years old! Sounds good to me though. The body is ash and stained a medium walnut. I will get a pic up as soon as I can. In the meantime stare at this one. I use Thmoastik Jazz Flatwounds on it. I just love these strings.
This is a 2002 Mexican Jazz (again a substitute pic, mine has a white pickguard) and it too has a great sound. I love the way the Jazz plays, but at heart I am still a P-bass guy. I use DR Hi-Beams on this bass.
A 2000-2001 Danelectro DC bass. This is a great, fun bass (See me playing said bass ). Mine is black (all right already, I hate to take pictures! OK?) but is other wise the same and gets the old DR strings from the Jazz. Sounds like I don't like this bass but I just love the mellow, jazzy sound I get from it with the old strings. It sits on my body differently than the Fenders and so is a little difficult to play in a gig situation when my brain is running on neutral, but I'm getting used to it. I have turned it into a fretless and it is a lot of fun. It plays great and has a nice fretless sound to go with that mellow, jazzy sound. I really enjoy playing it.
A 2004 Gallien-Krueger Backline 210 bass amp. 200 watts, 300 watts with an extension cab. I am in love. All the stage amp I am going to need for a while. Gives me a great range of sound, reproduces the upright well and has the best damn distortion circuit I've ever heard for a bass. I can even cover the rythm guitar part with it. Heheheheh.
