My Music Page

This page is where I will have links to my favorite composers and musicians and such and discuss musical composition and other things.

Here are some links to my favorite composers:

Frank was the first composer to turn me on to the wierdness and joy of the "avant-garde". Something that Charles Mingus developed even further (see below).

Charles Mingus

One of the greatest American composers of all time. Mingus's music is still ahead of it's time. He is also one of the great double bassists in jazz. His playing is strong, fluid, and filled with great ideas.

Beethoven

Beethoven may be considered the bridge between the classical and romantic periods of music, but I consider him to be the father of rock and roll. My first composer as hero. Also go here. This is a great page.

Mike Keneally

Mike was Frank Zappa's last 'stunt guitarist'. His body work is exceptional. I have Nonkertompf and some bootlegs (fully authorized by Senor Keneally). This is great stuff.

Bryan Beller

Mike Keneally's Bass Player and all around cool dude. Hey, he even answered my email!. Great first solo album. Check it out.

Here are some links to my favorite Musicians:

NOTE: Some of these guys like Mingus and Zappa are also composers and the links are above.

John Entwistle

My firstBass Hero and the man who made me want to play the bass. It is his influence, more than any one else, that has me playing more notes than your usual bottom feeder...I mean bottom ender...er...bass player! I miss him alot, but there are always the records! RIP in John.

Ron Carter

My Second Bass Hero and my first jazz bass inspiration. Ron is one of the greats. His work with Miles Davis in the early sixties, is some of the finest bass work around. However, he has many, many other records solo and otherwise that are in the same class as his work with Miles.

Dave Holland

I first heard Dave Holland on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew album (yes, it was a 12 inch vinyl disc). One of the finest Upright players on the planet.

Ron Miles

Ron is local talent who is becoming world renowned (well, jazz world renowned) for his trumpet playing. He also teaches at Metro State College in Denver. I have heard Ron only fonce so far, but his trumpet playing is...incredible. I have never heard anyone sound like they were using a wah-wah mute without using the mute.

The Who

Quite simply, the best rock and roll band in the world. And, yes I am bigger than you and can make this claim stick. Hope I die before I get old.

The Clash

The greatest of the punk bands. With musical abilities that made them the original heirs to the the Who's throne as greatest rock 'n' band in the world. Still fresh sounding, they put the rock back in rock and roll.
